Ladies and gentlemen, your host for the 11th Annual People's Choice Awards, Mr. John Forsythe.

Thank you. Welcome to the 11th Annual People's Choice Awards. This is the night when all of Hollywood, producers, writers, directors, performers, technicians, they all sit down and listen to what you, the people, have decided are the favorites in the world of movies, television, and music. You let us know how we're doing, and we must be doing something right, because last year, you saw more movies, watched more television, played more records than ever before. Television offered you an exciting selection of programs, comedies, dramas, sports, news, and you made your choice. Now this last year, cop shows continued to fascinate and we saw women cops, vice cops, funny cops, smart cops, father-and-son cops. If you wanted the police last year, you had a choice. You could either dial 911 or turn on your TV set, and we saw more and more shows featuring and starring America's greatest natural resource, our children. They made us laugh in situation comedies. They made us think in serious drama. They came in all shapes and sizes and after stealing the show, many of them went on to steal our hearts. So, with young people playing such an important part in our entertainment, it seems right that our first award be presented to your favorite young television performer, and to present that award is a talented actress, a 3-time winner of the best actress award in daytime, and she is rapidly moving into nighttime television as well. One of the most popular actresses in television, please welcome the lovely woman who plays Dr. Marlena Evans in the Days Of Our Lives, Ms. Deidre Hall.
